Meditation For Nuclear Bomb Developers

Folks who research and develop nuclear weapons systems might wish to hear the wisdom of their elders–the Manhattan Project scientists. 40 years after the first three bombs (Trinity’s Gadget, Hiroshima’s Fat Man, Nagasaki’s Little Boy) were detonated, some of the original Manhattan Project workers came back to Los Alamos for a public gathering to reflect on the meaning of the nuclear age and the work they’d done to create the nuclear age.

“Cottonwood Science Kids” is a 5 minute, 30 second audio collage, which premiered via tailgate loudspeaker, @ LANL for MLK Day 2012. It’s now ready for radio transmission. Listen to it.

Trinity Nuclear Abolition (TNA) remixed pop music (mostly from the 1980s) with found footage soundbytes regarding nuclear bomb development and proliferation. TNA used samples (less than 8 seconds each) from these recording artists: The Avengers, Dar Williams, Devo, Dick Dale and His Deltones, Kraftwerk (word=”Radioactive”), Moby (words=”Speak To Me In The Middle Of The Night”), Portishead, Public Enemy (words=”At The Level Of A Scientist/With This List”), Lady Gaga (“Poison”), Spearhead (“Fire” and “Radioactive”), The Sons of the Pioneers (“The Science Boys All Pitched In” and “If You’re Scared Of The Atom, Here’s What You Gotta Do”), The Stranglers (words=”Nuclear Device”) and Tool.

The FOUND FOOTAGE of audio soundbytes come from Manhattan Project workers (Robert Wilson, Hans Beta, I.I. Robi) and the spouse of a Los Alamos scientist (Elsie McMillan), and four un-identified children from a 1980s video about children responding to their fears about the bomb.

Father’s Day Five in jail

Juan M., Mitzi K., Will C., Dreka D. and Marc P. were taken into custody by Los Alamos county police on January 26th at 2:30. The five arrestees will be released Monday at 3:00pm. The court offered NO recognition of the Father’s Day Five’s donations to Tewa Women United in lieu of court fees, and the CMRR project is still underway at LANL.

LANL Security Refuses To Stop Lawbreakers

LANL Security stop Reference Man's funeral, trying to get more info from mourners.

On April 29th at 7:15, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) security members stopped the funeral of Reference Man at the Chemistry Metallurgy Research entrance, apparently protecting the Lab from further investigation into the death of Reference Man. Those who mourned the passing of Reference Man were pleading with employees, “please don’t kill any more people today,” as employees passed by the corpse of Reference Man. Two mourners (Jen & Marcus) left the scene with the body of Reference Man when security liaison (Donna) threatened to have Los Alamos Police arrest them for blocking the entrance to the CMR. One employee on a bicycle claimed that no plutonium pits are manufactured at CMR. Marcus asked Donna to investigate the veracity of this claim, and if pit production indeed continues, to please stop employees from committing such crimes.

Trinity Nuclear Abolitionists held vigil while others mourned Reference Man's demise.

The mourners then carried the corpse of Reference Man four blocks away to the free speech zone of LANL. Reference Man was killed by the hypocrisy of the institution that both needs him and destroys him by creating weapons of mass destruction that render his services mute.

On the prior day in Albuquerque, NM Reference Man attended the LANL hearings on their potential new permit to continue polluting NM with toxic waste. As you can see in the photo below, Reference Man was already dying of radiation poisoning before attending the hearing on NON-radioactive poisons that LANL has created and hopes to keep creating.Learn more about Reference Man and Reference Woman on FaceBook.

Meanwhile, ThinkOutsideTheBomb folks were at the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference. Reference Man got some wheels to go there, but it’s just a reference truck, so it didn’t run far…

What's Reference Man gonna do?

Dennis & the Man in 'Burque at the end of June.

LANL Security paid attention to mourners, but not to the complaints from mourners.

Reference Man Is Extinguished

Friends of Reference Man present his body to the CMR employees.

The same nuclear scientists who used to be friends of Reference Man have built nuclear weapons and finally now killed Reference Man.
